Another very useful virtual library is Lexscien: Library of Exploratory Science , a project of the Centre for Fundamental and Anomalies Research  available by subscription. It has been developed mainly by David and Julie Rousseau , a husband and wife team who designed the system, and took care of the programing, the scanning, and other aspects, truly a great amount of work. The journals were donated by various organizations and individuals, and financial support came from the Society for Psychical Research  and the Centre for Fundamental and Anomalies Research, and from the fundraising efforts of Ed May and the Rousseau’s.

The collection, presented as image facsimiles and in plain and formatted text, is still growing. The system allows users to search using key words, to download articles, and to lift text for quotes, something I have done repeatedly.

Journal of the SPR 1885-1886The site offers historically important journals such as the Proceedings and Journal of the Society for Psychical Research, and the Journal of Parapsychology, and the Revue Métapsychique. Other more recent publications include European Journal of Parapsychology, Journal of Scientific Exploration, and Research in Parapsychology. The SPR’s magazine, Psi Researcher, the name of which changed to Paranormal Review, is also in the collection. Some of the journals are not up to date but work is in progress to catch up with the backload. Nonetheless there is much modern material available here that should appeal to serious students of psychic phenomena.

Readers should consult the SPR Abstracts Catalogue (compiled by R. McLuhan and edited by Z. Weaver) that is part of Lexcien’s holdings. This presents abstracts of the content of the Journal of the Society for Psychical Research and the Proceedings of the Society for Psychical Research published between 1882 and 2002.

This library, a labor of love and an important contribution sustained by the Rousseau’s and others, is highly recommended. I use it frequently in my writings about parapsychology. To subscribe go here.
